Sweetwater

Somewhere between Montana’s territorial capitals of Bannack and Virginia City lies an unassuming road that winds its dusty tracks through some of the most rugged and desolate ranch land. Traveling the road one Saturday morning with a dear friend in tow, we came across an abandoned sheep-shearer’s outpost that with a few good connections, I was permitted to capture.

With cattle grazing the land, cowboys wrangling strays, and a buffalo jump within view, it was truly like stepping into a time capsule of the real Western frontier.
If you find yourself lucky enough to happen across this place or something like it, don’t forget to respect the land, leave no trace, move over for the cattle haulers, always wave, and be forever grateful for the few “good ol’ boys” we’ve got left.
